Sunday, long time friends Ross and Stephanie who are getting married Ina couple months came out for a sail and to finally meet Mia. At the same time, my boat neighbor sailed with us on his boat over to bluff cove. After a failed side-tie attempt, he anchored a safe distance away and snapped a few photos of A Cenoura. We had lunch and Sailed a long route back.

A Cenoura gets hauled out for bottom paint and a new stuffing box. $1,050 and 3 days. I was pretty happy about it actually because I got to stay at Mia’s apartment… A shower just steps away and a kitchen about 6 times bigger than my galley, oh and television shows.

My roommate from college, Bridget, came up from Newport to meet Mia and go sailing with us. We hadn’t seen any whales and just as I was thinking of a way to suggest that we turn around, Mia said “the water looks weird over there” and sure enough the whales found us. We tacked and headed towards shore at a good speed - sailing for the first time in months felt great- and the whales breached on both sides parallel to us for about half an hour.

One of the last times for a few months that I’ll get home from work before dark.

It got foggy, when we anchored the wind was pushing us too close for comfort towards another boat, in an emergency fashion we straightened out the boat and threw out the stern anchor. I went to work on trying to eliminate the loose steering wheel. Lifting open a cover in the lazarette revealed the chain/wire pulley system that rotates the rudder. Found out I need more serious tools than I own to really fix it and the previous owner has it tuned very one-sided but functional. All the steering components look to be in great shape. Maybe a project for another day. That work space is one of the more uncomfortable ones in the boat.
The sun came back out and we hung around until almost dark.

There was lightning a couple weekends ago and a bolt reportedly struck a BMW car up the hill from me. I drive past this one on the way to work everyday, parked on top of a hill. Although it looks like it could be the victim of the lightning, I did some diligence of local news research and found out that a different BMW was struck by lightning, on a different nearby hill. Those pictures weren’t even as impressive as this car though. The story behind this one is that the driver reached the intersection at the top of the hill and saw smoke coming from the engine. Pulled over, got out, and the car was on fire. The fire department showed up in 6 minutes and sprayed it out.
The obvious lesson here is to stay away from BMWs. Jk.
