It’s been a weird past week. I was really sick with flu like symptoms without the congestion. Just a weak body and painfully aching head for about 7 days. It must have been obvious what sort of state I was in because the employees at Jamba Juice wrote some variation of “I hope this brightens your day” on my cup. Maybe they did it for everyone that day.
When it hit it’s worst point I noticed red dots that were never on my before. Those spread around quickly so I finally went to the doctor - fearing for my life - I was losing sleep, couldn’t focus all day at work, and thinking those red dots were something horrible- did my boat have a flesh eating bug outbreak?
No. Some antibiotics and a few better nights of just trying to rest a s I was starting to feel better, and he mystery dots are almost gone.
Over the weekend, the weather was cold (for August) and grey so after i Put laundry away, Mia and I got a good lunch and a couple drinks with my college friend hailey and her boyfriend Chris who happened to be in the area. After that, the best possible sounding thing was going home to the boat and watching a movie. That’s what I did. Later at night, around 9:30 I noticed the sky was clear, it felt warm, the moon was close to full and bright, and there was a breeze. Mia and I kept throwing out the idea of moonlight night sails this summer, and this seemed like a fine opportunity. We ran to the store to get snacks and quickly made the boat ready for sailing. She steered us into the main channel as I hopped around setting the sails and lines up, In total i think it was 15 minutes to go from static home to proper sailed vessel. It was probably an hour and a half sail. There was swell in the water and we both felt a little woozy - I think due to having almost Zero reference point of anticipating motion. It was beautiful out there though. At one point I let autopilot keep us on a decent tack into and up the waves while we say up on the bow.
The handheld VHF I was positively raving about a month ago fell off the cockpit seat and the back plate broke. Cement didn’t work so I think I’ll switch to duct tape to extend the life of it.
I also witnessed some illegal fireworks action on the beach over the weekend, and was practical joked by my brothers friend, Brian (who’s little son Kai was pictured in a post in June) and now Kai’s diaper was put on the window of my truck.
