Anchor chain & finally sailing
As the title might give away, I bought new anchor chain and went sailing. My friends I met in college Hailey and Kamala (also the last two weddings we went to in November and January) along with their husbands came out to the boat and we all went sailing. The sail was close to a couple hours, at the end Brad (Kam's husband) and I jumped off the stern with some line in hand and got towed behind the boat. After that we anchored with the not so shiny (galvanized) fresh new chain.
Jim S/V Blue Sky helping me get the job done
Around 8am I was trying to figure out a solution to my first problem- getting the old rusty chain off the anchor and rode. Thankfully Jim from Blue Sky was walking by and he generously offered to help with his tools. We cut most of the shackles and chain using brute strength, but also asked Jose the maintenance man if we could borrow a meta saw, sparks flew, and I had finally separated my anchor package into different pieces. Bought 30 feet of high tense galvanized 3/8 anchor, two 7/16s (next size bigger) galvanized anchor shackles and had to get a 5/16s size for the pin to fit through the anchor. I'm going to have to re-do the shackle wire because it's ugly right now, but everything works great. I could tell the boat swung less on anchor with the extra feet on chain as well.
$240 for 30 feet of chain, three shackles , and 10 feet (west marine did not package all 10 feet) of wire
The whole gang. (L to R: Chris, me, Mia, Hailey, Kamala and Brad) plus nobody got sea sick!
On Sunday Mia and I had the pleasure of celebrating her dad's birthday by going to brunch and hanging out going to the mall real quick for a few things. One of which, a blanket - quilt actually - to cover the newly reassigned couch/hang out area of the boat. We needed something to wrap over the cushions and tuck underneath to prevent the different shaped cushions from sliding off when you sit on them. Hopefully we can keep this open area as time goes on because it's nice to use for packing or organizing anything, and ironing clothes, and for watching movies. I think it makes the area look bigger too.
Flew the drone Sunday afternoon- too windy for it to fly very well. If you look close you can spot Moa doing a yoga pose in the middle-right of the horizon line.
