December 7ish.
I attended a company holiday party on Friday night after work. It’s always interesting how company holiday parties go when comparing from one company to the next. The culture where I work seems to be on the same broad agenda of, “Let’s casually eat and get drunk” rather than my last place of business that was more like a 10-year-old birthday party with parents telling you when and where you will do each thing planned and have fun doing it. So, Friday was a lot like average night out, only with free food and mostly free drinks.
On Saturday I got to attend a friends-version holiday party - with Mia and her big group of friends - in Santa Monica. She bought me a bow-tie, my first ever. The party was fun, at an apartment with a lot of happy smiling social people. Before I knew it the party was dying-down and we grabbed a few people to walk to a bar. This was a terrible idea because when we stepped inside we stuck out of the crowd, and 4 guys approached someone in our group and make threats and called him names like a bullying scene from a cheesy movie. We left quick.
Sunday I stayed in doors, on couch, under a blanket, watching chick-flicks. What? It happens. At least I can admit it.
It finally rained and I love it, it’s a lot of fun driving in the rain (cautiously) as dark, low clouds would move over and block the light, then fat loud drops would pour from the sky. None of that can really be captured well with an iphone camera, but I tried. Also, it’s nearing winter solstice which, if it’s anything like last year, means very dramatic tidal swings. Here you can see the water about 2" from overflowing onto the sidewalk.
