Toy Chest Double Life

I needed some more out-of-the-way storage. Enough with the plastic bins and bags. Scrolling through Instagram accounts for van lifers, I saw this idea of a closed trunk that had a lid that was also a desk top. But you could open it and lift up a foldable fabric shelf to hang and access the clothes, then drop it back down into the trunk out of sight.

Lid up, shelf hung.

Lid up, shelf hung.

Research online led me to a toy chest company operating out Colorado that built sturdy wood chests. They also sold unfinished versions for significantly less money than a finished (painted) version. This was great because I wanted to pick a stain to try to match the rest of the interior wood of the boat.

Some assembly required, as well as a couple coats of slightly-too-red stain over the weekend, and one small hardware piece lost in the water, and it was complete.
