March 1 & 2 2014
I got to spend the weekend with Mia at her family’s house in Shell Beach. The weather was full of big seas and passing rain storms, so we checked out both the Pismo and Avila piers on Saturday morning. Waves were tall enough to scrape the bottom of the pier in pismo. Fortunately Avila is tucked in a protector area, which is why so many boats are anchored on moorings there, but there was still enough surge and washy seas to break up on the parking lots and cause damage. Supposedly, this same day, a wave broke through all the glass on a side of a restaurant out on the Santa Barbara pier.
Up at the horse ranch they are waking George almost daily as he is healing his leg, and in the meantime there is an even bigger horse (picture of just the head) for Mia’s sister to ride. It’s crazy how gentle and friendly these horses are, then a cow will moo in the next ranch and one horse will jump and huff and be unsettled. Equally as odd, is that some of the horses, only on the west facing side of the barn, will just pleasantly stand out in the pouring rain.
Also on this short trip, I got to sit shotgun whole Mia’s 15 year old brother, James was driving with just his permit. In fact, it was the safest I had felt while another person is driving the car in a long time, even in downpours of rain on windy backroads.
