I was really productive today, fitting in some important errands and installing new headlight bulbs in Mia’s car before heading up to Sierra Madre in the afternoon for a hike. Not just any hike - this trail is up mount Wilson and Mia’s aunt Betsey hikes it every morning before day break. She even had a heart attack on the hike, so there’s lots of history there. Mia’s cousin, Sydney would hike up the trail after school when she was a youngin and hang out in the nooks and crannies of the mountain with a hilly club- how cool is that? It was fun trekking along with Betsey as a tour guide and realizing there is a story to practically every turn. An old man is even building a new additional trail all by himself without the city helping or telling him to stop. He is Lugging metal stakes and wire up the mountain the pack in the foundation for a new switch back. The town of Sierra Madre is in the close proximity of Pasadena and Los Angeles, however it feels like and is in fact a safe, secluded town untouched by the urban expansion of Los Angeles. It feels a lot like Alamo near Danville where I grew up. Anyways it was hazy and getting dark so we walked a few miles and made it back down during sunset. Betsey also helps out at an old town museum at the base of the trail, Lizzie’s, so the tour guidance continued. Then I stepped in dog poop. Thankfully Syd wasn’t grossed out and she hosed off my shoe. The night was spent watching some playoff football, having to-go stone fire grill and playing Yahtzee and “left right center”. Tracy scored 667 points in one Yahtzee game and we’re pretty sure that’s got to be a record.
