I said Matt+Julia’s wedding weekend went by fast, and if this past weekend doesn’t tie it for speediness, it was a very close 2nd. Time indeed flies when you’re having fun.
On Friday night I hitched along with Mia and her cousin-roommate for the weekend to visit her family in Shell Beach (next to Pismo Beach/Avila/San Luis Obispo) to celebrate a handful of family members July birthdays. Wouldn’t it be nice to fall asleep up on a big comfy bed in a room with a sliding door open to let cool ocean breeze and the sound of crashing waves below in? Yes it would, and it was. Thanks to Mia’s little sister for letting us take over her pinked-out unicorn-decorated bedroom.
Saturday morning it was cloudy, so we went inland to see George the horse, give him a bath and tend to an injured eye, and wait for the sun to break through and the clouds on the coast to recede out over the ocean. More relatives showed up throughout the day and the afternoon and evening was a big party. Highlights included excellent homemade food throughout the night, gift opening and a bunch of fun watching little ones dressed in costumes go crazy around the house.
Sunday dawned another beautiful day and we went to see George again, this time Mia took him around - cautiously due to the possible lack of depth perception from the eye thing - and I witness something pretty funny for the second time. After hosing the horse down and cleaning him off, he will sniff out quite possibly the dirtiest spot of hay/dirt/stuff and just flop down and roll over. Like a dog rolling on its bad on grass, this enormous horse guarantees to do this after each time he gets rinsed.
Back at the house we gathered up a few kayaks and 6 of us when paddling around the kelp beds in the little bay. Sun was hot and the water was clear and cool so dipping in felt great. Throughout all the fun we never really paying attention to the time someone mentioned it was 630, so we packed up and headed back the LA.
The immediate and extended family all gets along superbly, plus the ideal weather and delicious meals made for this to be a very fun weekend to remember. Happy birthdays to James, Maddy, Mia, and William. I think that was everyone applicable and present.

It’s been a couple weeks now without much boat use, but I think that’s going to change by next weekend.
