Easter Weekend
Things kicked off Friday at 5pm when I left work early, because I went in early. I had recently met a friend who said “I’m up for anything!” so we met up for a “sunset cruise” which was actually, due to the weather, a “misty, foggy, cold, windy, bumpy putt around the harbor and into the ocean for a minute then back”. Of course, the sunset and weather the day beforehand (when I got the idea) and the day afterward were both awesome in calm glassy conditions, but it’s alright you learn to go with the flow and be happy to do such things on a whim.
Saturday was laundry day. I usually try to fit laundromat trips in really late at night or really early in the morning, when nobody else is at the nearest place, which allows me to use as many machines I need all at the same time. In and out in about an hour and fifteen minutes. However, Saturday in the middle of the day is probably the absolute worst time to join the laundry-cleaning masses. I admit I don’t quite get something there. There’s an isle of washing machines, probably 30 normal machines and they all cost $1.50. They were all being used. Then there are these side-loading “Speed Queen Commercial Washers” which have exactly the same capacity and take exactly the same amount of time as the other plain machines, however they cost $3.50. Of course those are all left available therefore I had to use those. $10.50 for three washes! Oh well, having clean clothes to wear is worth the sacrifice, I guess. Note to self: never do laundry on the weekend again, problem solved.
That Saturday night I met up with a solid group of friends and had a great time except for one minor mishap. I’ll tell you what that mishap was. I walked through a yard with my friends on the 5-minute stroll to our spot for the night. A few minutes later we were sitting in a VIP section all bunched in close and a couple people were making similar comments about an awful smell, “maybe they didn’t clean up someone’s puke from last night” someone said. Ugh, it was bad, though, and getting worse. I’m sitting back and casually lift one foot up over the the other knee when my buddy exclaims, “Bro is that DOG POOP!?!” - Yep, sure was. Quite the party foul on my part. After spending 10 minutes in the partner-restaurants empty bathroom soaking and wiping the toes of my shoes, erasing all evidence, I was able to return.
Sorting laundry pre-laundromat. And a photo Sunday morning of my cockpit. I thought a nice juxtaposition of my footwear on the weekend, left outside for more thorough cleaning.
Easter Sunday started with the sun out so I got on my bike and cruised the strand until I worked up an appetite for lunch. However the weather quickly turned poor/dark/cloudy and rained for a moment.
Every Easter I am reminded that it is when I got my dream-car in 2005. Unfortunately it was a solution to a car-totalling accident back then, when I used to proudly drive my moms old gas-sipping car that was meant to get me through college. I’m lucky to have walked away from that accident without more than a cut and bruise, and even luckier to have picked out the pickup truck I had been dreaming of for years. 8 years later, with a couple eye-pleasing modifications and 145000 miles and I still get regular compliments on my truck. I can’t say that Toyota’s person-to-person service is impeccable, but the finished product of the vehicle sure is.
I’ll end this update with a link to a video from St. Patties day two weeks ago. The lead bartender, Keenan, wore a GoPro Hero 3 on his head, and the short video he edited is a collection of highlights from that day - some funny, some wild - and I’m in it at 0:31 in bright neon green.
