April 19 & 20 2014
Up in Shell Beach / San Luis Obispo with Mia for Easter weekend with her family. We went on a hike on Johnson trail in San Luis with a big group through green rolling hills. Seeing all theses people outdoors on the weekends mountain biking and hiking with their family or friends or dogs is always refreshing. After that we got lunch at the popular Gus’s sandwiches and went up to the horse barn.
Mia was walking George the horse and we laughed at how these huge beast animal are so compliant to whatever little humans train them to do, and how they could -if they wanted- just break free and run away. About five minutes later I say down outside of the arena while Mia walked George in, something spooked him and he flinched left, knocked into Mia, and he hopped up, jarring Mia’s arm that was holding the reigns. I was freaked when I saw this, but Mia is one tough person and shook it off and got on the horse. I guess I haven’t been around horses long enough to really be that comfortable.
Following that we had a big Easter dinner and they had more family members over. On Sunday we headed to church -something that is basically new to me- and had a great Easter egg hunt around the yard - something I haven’t done in a long time - and followed that up with about 19 people having brunch at the Madonna inn. There’s a world famous urinal in one of the mens bathrooms, that you just pee onto a tile floor and a rock waterfall switches on and washes everything away. I included a picture for all to admire the engineering marvel. The Madonna inn is pretty cool to walk around in, it feels like Disneyland designed it. Before driving back to Los Angeles we all hung out in the backyard overlooking the ocean, watching whales breach in the distance.
The last thing worth mentioning is that we tried to call in an order for curbside pickup off the road on the 101, even though restaurants websites said they closed at 930 or so, they had shut the doors and phone orders at 8 and we were trying this at about 815. LAME. Anyway, here’s the part worth mentioning, we decided to stop at a vons in I think west lake village, and got grocery store sushi that they make there, it was the best store bought sushi I’ve had, and arguably the top 5 compared to sushi restaurants I’ve been to.
