2nd Sail of '13

Went out Sunday 1-13-13. A video is posted above. The weather was sunny and warm at the dock, but once outside the harbor the wind was cool and brisk. Marginally stronger winds than last weekend, so I was able to get some more fun solo sailing in.

As I mentioned a couple posts ago, I was going to maneuver through tacks and jibes without the autopilot this time - it worked out better, actually. The autopilot would either over-shoot or under-shoot and over-correct itself during tacks. Simple geometry of, “I need to go 90 degrees that way” didn’t seem to work with the machine. But now, I’ll stand in front of the wheel, and rotate it as needed, handle the jib sheets, and then smooth out the tack. It all goes very well and happen in probably 5-10 seconds.

Here is a shot on a broad-reach, pointing towards north Palos Verdes.

It’s forecast to be summer-ish conditions next weekend - mid-70s and sunny.
