November 2015 King Tides

Nov 24, 25, and 26 are king tide dates. The tide reached 6.95ft. This is enough to flood over the pathway along the waterfront.

So I timed the surge as best as possible to tip toe and hop delicately through the water. Last night the wind whipped up and so did some swell, so the water in the marina was moving quite a bit. About 2/3 of the way to the end of the path the water surged outwards and I saw my opening. I sprinted like a track runner in work clothes. I didn't fall, which was great, but I also didn't make it to the steps before the water flooded back in. Interesting start to my commute.  Additionally, the wind was strong enough to down a power-line on the major street I take to the freeway and force a closure of the road.

Apparently this is the highest it has been in 4 years. I asked a manager in the Port Royal office if part of this whole project to revamp the harbor was going to include raising the walkways along the water and he said he has not heard of that and that if the hotel construction isn't doing it, likely nobody else will. Seems like it's going to intrude on the vacations of people staying in the 1st floor, "ocean front" rooms once the hotel is done.

December 22, 23, &24 will be another round of King tides.
